Summer 2 2025
This half term, we have lots of exciting things planned. We will be having weekly Arena outdoor learning sessions. These sessions develop many essential skills, particularly resilience, teamwork and collaboration.
KS2 also have their much anticipated residential. We are very excited to be travelling up to the Bath and Bristol area, during which time we will be visiting Longleat, The Roman Baths and We The Curious (@ Bristol Science Museum). The residential will provide many opportunities for the children to consolidate many areas of their learning from this year and of course many memories for years to come.
In science, the children will be learning about Earth and Space; a topic that always proves to be exciting and inspiring. In geography, the children will get the opportunity to learn about and develop their understanding of deserts, including how they are formed, what can live in a desert and how humans use them.
For a more detailed breakdown of the learning Dolphins will be doing this half term, please see the termly overview at the top of the page.
Summer 1 2025
It may have been a short half term, but we have crammed in a huge amount. We started the half term with a chocolate theme! As part of our poetry topic, we explored Michael Rosen's poem Chocolate Cake and of course, sampled some tasty chocolate cake. We also explored the different ways rocks are formed (as part of our science topic) and made chocolate igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.
The children have since gone on to write their own recount poems, inspired by the poem 'A Good Weekend'. We are all very proud of their fantastic efforts.
The year 6 children also completed their SATs, during which the children showed fantastic resilience and determination. The rest of the class, worked on a variety of projects including, preparing a pumpkin and sweetcorn patch in the vegetable area and sowing seeds ready for an autumn harvest.
As part of music, we have been having whole class brass instrument teaching. Mr Vincent has been coming in each week and teaching us how to play the trumpet or cornet. The children have made great progress already and this will continue into summer 2 term and we are hoping to put on a mini concert for parents and carers very soon.
